8.0.2 mail template on 8.5 server uses forms85.nsf

We copied a mail file that uses the 8.0.2 mail template onto our 8.5 test server. The browser user interface appears to use the forms85.nsf and has all the new 8.5 web features (tabbed interface, sidebar, etc...). This feature is desirable as it allows web mail users to benefit from the new UI without upgrading the template design.

My question: Is this configuration supported? Alternatively, is the 8.5 mail template fully supported for use by 8.0.2 clients?
